The Coalition for Better Education (CBE), a Cebu-based organization established by Mr. Roberto Aboitiz of Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, in collaboration with Aboitiz Foundation and Philippine Business for Social Progress recently embarked on a School Kit Distribution Drive for TS-Sendong stricket schools in January 2 and January 27.

1210 school kits were distributed to nine affected elementary schools in CDO City namely; Canitoan, Pagatpat, Balulang, P.N.Roa, Macasandig, Bonbon, Bulao, Ipnona and North City Central School. The School Kit Distribution was made possible with the support of Mata Na, CDO FB Group.

43% of the 44,000 enrolled students were affected by the flashfloods brought about by TS Sendong.. 75 are reported missing while 52 were declared casualties. In Iligan City, 62% of the 23,000 enrolled were affected with 102 missing, and 47 declared casualties. In CDO, again data show that 285 classrooms needed repairs and some of them complete rehabilitation. 17,000 chairs, tables need to be refurbished. Thousands of students were displaced because their schools were used as evacuation centers at the wake of the relief operations, not to mention children living in trauma after undergoing such harrowing experience.

Each kit, consisting of pencils, notebooks, pad paper, face towel, crayons, ruler, a pair of scissors and eco-bag costs only P86.
