CBE CONDUCTS FREE TOY-MAKING SEMINAR AT CDO
The Coalition for Better Education (CBE), committed to support the education initiatives of DepEd in the areas of research, training and development and advocacy (www.cbephils.net), conducted a “FREE” Toy-Making seminar last May 23-24, 2012, at the DTI Mis. Or. Province Conference Room, 3rd Floor, 52nd Business Center, J. Gaerlan St., Cagayan de Oro City.

In partnership with MNCDO (Mata Na, CDO), a Facebook Group based in CDO, CBE invited daycare centers and K-3 teachers to attend the 2-day seminar. Experts in Waldorf and DAP Education were invited as the trainers for the seminar.
A total of 42 participants registered for the activity. Teachers from pre-school to K to 3 from different elementary schools in the Division of Cagayan De Oro City, namely: Camaman-an ES, Macasandig ES, City Central ES, Balulang ES, Bayabas ES, Macabalan ES, Batinay ES, G.L Reyes ES, Tagpangi ES, enjoyed the seminar. Volunteers from different Civic Organizations like Mata Na’ CDO and Bangon Kagay-an were also present to support the event.
Participants enjoyed the following activities on the first and second day of the training: sewing, doll making, painting, circles song, verses, and sample routines, like free play, storytelling. All these were taken from a Waldorf-inspired curriculum.
The training was led by the president of CBE herself Ms. Grace C. Ferreros, a Waldorf pre-school practitioner, trained by the International Waldorf Kindergarten Association of Stuttgart, Germany and the Rudolf Steiner Education in the Philippines.
Moreover, the organization provided free lunch, snacks, and materials needed for the training; certificates of participation were also given at the end of the 2-day seminar.
CBE aimed to promote the Toy-Making seminar/workshop as a therapy session for Typhoon Sendong child survivors.
When asked what they learned from the training, a participant enthused: “Even if the primary aim was for children, this would still be a good seminar for the tourism industry because we usually deal with or handle tourists who come here for the first time. The key is STORYTELLING!”…Ms. Gina Amador, Northern Mindanao Ranger Tourist Directory, Inc.
