CBE partners with RAFI in the Mega Cebu Candidates Fora 2013
The Coalition for Better Education (CBE) supported the Mega Cebu Candidates Fora 2013 for District 1 candidates last April 10. It’s main organizer, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), unified other government and non-government organizations in this three-day event (April 10, 25 and 29). This major event is attended by the mayor candidates in the cities of Carcar, San Fernando and Talisay.
On its first leg, no less than four hundred supporters, concerned citizens and student leaders trouped to the Cebu Cultural Center as they listened to what the future leaders of Cebu have to say on pertinent issues raised by the constituents. . The candidates who attended the forum were Nicepuro Apura (incumbent and running for mayor of Carcar City), Mariano Aligarbes (independent running mayor of Carcar), Eduardo Gullas (incumbent congressman for District 1 and candidate mayor for Talisay City) and Lakambini Reluya (candidate mayor for San Fernando).
The candidates were given the chance to present their individual platforms and plans for the development of their city. Panelists and concerned citizens addressed their queries regarding the city’s welfare and various concerns on environment, peace and order and education. This forum aims to help citizens choose leaders who they think are capable of creating better change in the province of Cebu.
Atty. Frank Malilong Jr. (host and columnist) of TV5 and Sunstar, Antonio Chiu (Vice President of External Affairs) of Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Joel Lee (Founding Member) of the Movement for a Livable Cebu, Prof. Felisa Etimadi (Professor) of University of the Philippines Cebu, Jenny Lea Tan (Project Officer) of Dilaab Foundation and Aina Hubahib (Chief Economic Development Specialist) of National Economic Development Authority sat as panel of reactors.
In general, the first day Mega Cebu Candidates Fora 2013 was a success, providing the voters the privilege of an informed choice.
