GLOBE TELECOM and CBE holds2nd Batch of Global Filipino Teachers (GFT) Program
The Coalition for Better Education (CBE) under the auspices of Globe Telecom and Department of Education (DepEd) conducted the second batch of Global Filipino Teachers (GFT) Program last 24-26th of April, 2013 in Golden Valley Hotel, Cebu City. A total of thirty teachers coming from 29 schools in 15 divisions of the country composed the first batch of the new trainees under the Global Filipino Teachers - Peer Coaching Program. These participants came from Regions 1, 3, 4a, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12 from the Divisions of San Carlos City in Pangasinan, Olongapo City, Batangas, Cavite, Dasmariñas City, Iloilo, Iloilo City, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Tanjay City, Biliran, Leyte, Tacloban City, Cagayan de Oro City and General Santos City.
The GFT program, a CSR project of Globe Telecom under the Globe Bridging Communities Program, aims to help teachers in integrating technology in the learning process through authentic or project-based learning activities. The primary goal of this training is to teach participants how to seamlessly weave in technology using project-based approaches.
Topics such as Standards Development, Online Authentic Assessment and PBL Approaches were introduced to the teacher participants on the first two days of the training program. Along with the discussion, hands-on activities such as creating rubrics, simulating PBL lessons were done by the participants themselves. The third day, however, was the most critical part of the three-day intensive training. The participants were grouped according to their region and/or divisions for their project preparation. After making their own PBL projects, the participants were presented their respective projects to the panel of expertsfor approval. Once approved, the projects are to be implemented by the teachers in their own schools.
In the course of defending their own PBL projects, the participants truly had a difficult time. Then again at the end of the training program, everyone wore smiles on their faces as they accepted their Certificates of Completion and Attendance. Indeed, the GFT Program was a big challenge to the participants but in spite of this, everyone had a great time knowing thatthe lessons they acquired throughout the whole training will truly be a great help as they as well seek for better education for their students.
