In an effort to support the implementation of the K12 Basic Education Program, Globe Telecom, the leading telephone company in the country today through the Global Filipino Teachers Program (GFT), partnered with CBE in the conduct of the Peer Coaching – Advanced Course, “Mapping ICT Literacy in the Curriculum”. The course is designed to align the K12 Learning Competencies vis-à-vis the ICT Continuum. The ICT Continuum is a set of ICT Learning Competencies developed by the Manitoba Education and Training, USA. The alignment is essential to effectively integrate technology in every classroom experience through interdisciplinary approach.
The 4-day training program was held last May 20-22, 2014 at the Golden Valley Hotel. On the fourth day, the participants had a teambuilding activity patterned after a popular TV reality show, “Amazing Race”. The race started at the Golden Valley Hotel, Ayala Center Cebu and all the way to Papakits Resort, Liloan, where a series of adventure activities were offered for the participants to try. The last activity was a commitment session where the teachers pledged their support to sustain the peer coaching program started in 2012.
The 30 teachers who came from public schools from Region 1 to Region 12 are all GFT graduates and have undergone the basic training on Peer Coaching, still under the GFT Program of Globe, with CBE as training partner. All trainees are required to coach 5 other teachers on ICT Integration and those who have successfully implemented the coaching program will move on to become Lead Coaches.
Since its inception in 2009, the GFT Program has graduated 463 teachers nationwide, producing 263 Proficient Teachers and 30 Peer Coaches.
